Vector Portraits
Let's face it—Adobe Illustrator is TOUGH! Not always the easiest tool to use—and, especially for portraiture. In Los Angeles in the early 80’s, I studied airbrush with some of the most-skilled and talented in the industry. As the Associate Art Director at Paper Moon Graphics (if you are old enough to know this reference, then you’re old!), I worked with some of the legends in this genre. Although, digital portraiture is easier in Photoshop, occasionally, I like to take on these personal “double-dog dare” challenges. These are always fun and rewarding for me. Through this stimulating challenge, I learned that using friskets is very similar to using vector shapes.

Occasionally I will try to attempt portraiture in Illustrator. INCREDIBLY DIFFICULT! In the tradition of Haddon Sundblom and other painterly illustrators from my favorite era of print, I did this portrait of my daughter. This is a work in progress portrait of my daughter, styled like a Coca Cola model from the fifties.
